For me, it is a convenient route to Ocho Rios, since it is literally just a straight road to the town and the scenic drive is always a great experience. My preferred route of driving to Ocho Rios from Kingston is via the Edward Seaga North to South Highway. The visual embodiment of the Jamaican expression ‘Likkle (little) but Tallawah’ (* meaning small but mighty), the waterfall may not be as high, large or extensive as many of its other counterparts, but this beauty comes with an entire days worth of experiences perfect for the whole family. The first known inhabitants of the island, the Arawaks were the indigenous group of hunters and gathers present on the island prior to Christopher Columbus’ arrival in 1494 and their powerful presence is still palpable on the island to this day. The word ‘Konoko’ comes from the Awarak word which means ‘ rainforest’, a testament to the evergreen foliage that is prominent at the location. Jamaica is world renowned for its beautiful white sandy beaches, but a favourite feature of Jamaica for many locals is the myriad of waterfalls and rivers that flow throughout the country. But we were armed with good vibes and a great attitude so we knew it we going to be a great day out. Except, of course we knew there would be a waterfall there. As it was the first time for most of us, we didn’t really know what to expect. Ann and ntvisit the astounding Konoko Falls & Park. And last year, my team decided to make the short, scenic trip to St. The lyme can be anything a team lunch, dinner, a day trip, night out, whatever the team decides to do. You see a part of my work culture at the hospital is that every quarter we have a firm/team lyme (*lyme is Caribbean slang for hanging out or spending time together) to reward the members of the team for the hard work that they’ve been putting in for the past 3 months. Last December, I had the wonderful pleasure of going to Konoko Falls and Park on a work trip. Previously known as the Mahoe Falls and Coyaba Gardens and Museum (* coyaba is the Arawak word for heaven), the site renovated and re-branded itself in 2015 to become one of Jamaica’s premier tourist attractions. Konoko Falls and Park is a majestic cascade waterfalls nestled in the tranquil hills of Ocho Rios, Jamaica approximately 5 minutes away from the Ocho Rios town center. A Spectacular Adventure at Konoko Falls and Park Patients were divided randomly into 40% training and 60% validation groups. Segments with and without chest compressions were collected prior to each of the first four defibrillation shocks (when available) from each case. Methods: Five-second TTI segments were collected from patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest treated by one of four defibrillator models. We sought to develop and evaluate the performance of a TTI-based algorithm to automatically detect chest compressions. In contrast to accelerometer sensors, transthoracic impedance (TTI) is commonly acquired by defibrillators. Real-time automated detection of chest compressions may improve CPR administration during resuscitation, and could facilitate application of next-generation ECG algorithms that employ different parameters depending on compression state. In this paper, the inverse relationship between thoracic impedance and electric shock energy according to the state of the cardiac arrest patient is demonstrated through the results of the experiment, and the need for an electric facility system that can revise for changes in thoracic impedance of the cardiac arrest patient by reflecting them on electric shock energy in real time is presented.read more read lessĪbstract: Objective: Interruptions in chest compressions during treatment of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest are associated with lower likelihood of successful resuscitation. When the first peak current was up to 56.4 (A) and at least 8.4 (A) in the adult mode, the first peak current was up to 32.2 (A) and at least 4.8 (A), respectively, when the impedance changed, the error of the current figure occurred. To prove this, we divided it into adult and pediatric modes and experimented with the energy error of the AED according to the same impedance change. The change in thoracic impedance caused by this has a negative effect on the intended electrical energy of the automatic heart shocker to the emergency patient. In addition, changes in chest statues due to gender, age, and accidents cause changes in thoracic impedance in real time. However, the thoracic impedance of patients changes due to CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and artificial respiration during first aid treatment. To this end, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is placed in a public place so that even non-professional medical personnel can respond to SCA. This method could be used for both online and offine CPR quality evaluation or to detect artifact free ECG intervals in which a rhythm assesment could be launched.read more read lessĪbstract: Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a serious emergency disease that has increased steadily every year. For the test set, the sensitivity and the positive predictive value were 93.9% and 96.2%, respectively. The mean duration of the pauses was 7.0 ± 6.2 s. The method was adjusted and evaluated using a dataset of 3596 pauses corresponding to OHCA episodes. The fuctuations induced by chest compressions were first isolated and emphasized and then, using an adaptive threshold, the intervals without chest compressions were identified. In this work we present a method for the automatic detection of pauses in chest compression using the TTI. Chest compressions and ventilations induce fast and slow fluctuations, respectively, on the transthoracic impedance (TTI). During CPR, chest compressions and ventilations should be provided with a compression-ventilation ratio of 30:2. Abstract: The recommended treatment for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and early electrical defibrillation. For example, an ace and a 6 is a soft 17. Soft/Soft Hand: A soft hand is a hand that includes an ace valued at 11 instead of 1. For instance, if you and the dealer both have 19, you push. Insurance: When the dealer shows an ace, the player can place a side bet of up to half of his original bet. Hard/Hard Hand: Any hand that doesn’t contain an ace that can count as an 11. Regardless of whether you get a 2 or a 10, you can’t hit again. For example, if you bet $5 and get dealt an 11, you can place an additional $5 bet and receive one more card. You can only double down with your first two cards. As mentioned previously, if you bust, you automatically lose.ĭouble Down/Doubling: Doubling down or doubling is when a player places an additional bet equal to his original bet and then receives just one additional card. The guide also signposts towards other useful QAA resources including our Supporting Student Transitions series which aims to support students progressing into higher education, between levels of study, and into employment. Working collaboratively with SSAC members in the development of the guide ensures that it will serve as a practical and accessible resource for students at all stages of their higher education journey.' 'This is an excellent resource that offers rich and practical advice to students on how to get to grips with an assessment. It also aligns with QAA’s work on academic integrity and promotes good academic practice through supporting academic skills development among students.ĭr Ailsa Crum, Director of Membership, Quality Enhancement and Standards at QAA said: The guide supports students throughout the assessment process - from understanding learning outcomes and developing a first draft, through to making use of any feedback provided to them. It has been developed in collaboration with members of QAA’s Student Strategic Advisory Committee (SSAC) and is presented as an interactive guide in order to make it more accessible to a variety of students. It can also serve as a useful tool for discussions among tutors, lecturers and students about assessment as a learning journey. The new resource aims to support students at all stages of their higher education journey. Recognising this challenge, QAA has developed a short guide that aims to support students in 'unpacking' the assessment process. These are very personal reactions to the sections. You could imagine a more satisfying interpretation of them, and we’ve played a fair few detective sims that come to better conclusions. But while it feels great to be given free reign of a crime scene and to flick between these lenses, we never really felt like we were building a bigger picture, or that we had any agency in forming the conclusions. You get two filters to apply on a crime scene: one is for biological matter, the other for technology. The crime scene investigations, too, feel a bit patchy. We would have loved it if they just felt narratively vital, rather than a pure rollercoaster. They are undeniably memorable, and produce some of the game’s lasting images – a towering pigeon, a crowd of people with television-heads, a shimmering deer wandering the halls – but they also feel too long for the minimal character development or evidence they deliver. For our tastes, the neural interrogations can feel like hallucinations for hallucination’s sake, particularly as they can stretch on for a long old while. It’s easy to get carried away, as there are still some wrinkles that a remaster can’t completely remove. But if you survived Layers of Fear, have a stern disposition or love horror and narrative games, Observer is an easy recommendation. There’s also little in the way of hand-holding – a concession to the immersion – which might lead to rage-quitting, as the correct turning or room eludes you (a basement sequence in particular is a labyrinth). Nobody is particularly friendly, and you will be very alone in a shifting, futuristic haunted house. It’s not for everyone, as it’s lacking in twitchy, traditional gameplay. These neural interrogations play out as Kafka-esque nightmares, full of memorable but horrific scenes, and you’ll come out of the other side with an inkling of the direction in which you need to go. You work from crime scene to crime scene on your son’s trail, using your Dream Eater to hack into the memories of victims and suspects. You play Daniel Lazarski, an investigator on the hunt for his son in an apartment complex within Krakow. This is a horror game, set in a cyberpunk world. If you’re in that group, hopefully you now have a gist of whether a refined version of the game is enough to warrant plugging yourself back in.įor those who haven’t come across Observer before, you deserve a primer. That’s the lowdown for people who may have played Observer before. It genuinely makes you excited for the possibilities. It may not have the box office appeal of a Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed or Demon’s Souls, but it’s a calling card for what the Series X|S can achieve, and the experiences we may well get out of it in the future. It’s for all of these reasons that a remaster of Observer on the Series X|S feels right. The apartment complex in Observer: System Redux is that little bit deeper and richer as a result, with more to see and collect. That’s been resolved with three new mini-cases and their resulting neural interrogations, amounting to probably twenty minutes each. And while the apartment complex of the original Observer was atmospheric, it lacked the content to make deep, systematic exploration worthwhile. Where it was once unfair, it’s now forgiving but tense, and it achieves what was originally intended: to offer much-needed gameplay to the on-rails sections. Observer: System Redux has given Bloober Team the opportunity to file down the stealth to become silky smooth. If there were flaws in the original, it was that the stealth sections infuriated and the game world didn’t reward exploration enough. With the release of the Series X|S, all of these elements have been amplified, and Observer: System Redux becomes an exemplar of telling a story and keeping the player locked within it. The people of Observer’s world all lose themselves in virtual constructs your character, Daniel Lazarski (Rutger Hauer) is employed to lose himself in the consciousness of others as the titular Observer – the game itself has been built, from the ground up, to deliver immersion to whomever plays it. Use everything they feel, think or remember to solve the case and capture the elusive killer.Observer is a game about immersion. Now, i'm not saying that these tools are all that people should be using, quite on the contrary - learning a bit of everything is probably pretty nice, if you have enough time and are willing to put in the effort to explore your options! But i've also seen them not being used at all leading to some pretty bad circumstances - gradually created DB schemas where you end up needing to query 9 different tables to get some data because of no good reason, killing the usability of the DB through any tool where you want to visualize things or even want to write SQL queries because some app developer thought that going for OTLT (e.g. proper foreign keys) also far less useful for badly architected ones (no foreign keys OR EAV/OTLT pattern which has more proponents than i'm okay with). statements or something - tools like DbVis can let you visualize hundreds of tables of various DBMSes easily, as well as filter your layouts etc., which in my experience has been really useful for well architected schemas (e.g. Of course, using tools like that in some capacity probably also immensely useful for discovering larger and older DB structures and just exploring the schema rather than just writing a bunch of SELECT/DESCRIBE/. The migrations might (should?) still be applied by a tool of some sort and could be versioned, but being able to draw a bunch of boxes around and getting all of the DDL that you need to get 90% of the way there is pretty great! Curiously, this also lets you tackle the laziness of the developers: "But i don't want to create 5 different tables for these types of objects that are different but also seem vaguely similar at the present time, i might just do with one wide table with lots of columns because i'm lazy and data normalization be damned!" adding a new table to an existing schema through the ER diagram) which was just surprisingly useful! Not only that, but there was also the ability to synchronize schemas, with the tool essentially diffing what is there and what needs to be changed, so partial changes also become doable (e.g. But not just that, you could also forward engineer this ER diagram of yours to get SQL that you could apply to a live instance, or vice versa - to create an ER diagram of an existing DB instance. You could design your entire schema as an ER diagram, thus being able to play around with how everything could be laid out extremely easily and also get a visual "feel" for that it'd end up being like and how your queries could work. To expand upon the argument of leaning into GUI tools for stuff like this, or to offer my own opinions, i really liked the functionality of MySQL Workbench. Don't feel pressured, do what works for you. These are not fundamentally complex or magic (there will be times you wonder at the stupidity of the query plan), there are books on this and lots of articles out there.įor small dbs, no problem, but as they grow not understanding the optimiser will kill you.Īnyway, my experience. You need to understand what the query optimiser does and how to give it the info it needs (indexes, clustered indexes, stats, whatever), which the wizard will not help you understand. If you know what you are doing you 99% don't need it (I've got a couple of useful tips off it, ever, that's all). The index wizard is likewise de-skilling. There's a small hump to get over to learn to write SQL queries, it's worth getting over (IMO) (there are times when I'd like to take a large existing multi-way join and see a pic of it though). Visual query builders are a deskilling device. If you're using SQL on small DBs you can probably get away with what you do, for large DBs that won't fly. This is just IMO and it depends on your needs, but these fit mine. |
